Welcome to Karen Russell Jewellery
I live near Bristol with my family and other animals. I have been designing and making jewellery for about 9 years, initially using conventional beads and findings. I try to be eco-friendly and so wherever possible use handmade, vintage, recycled and fairtrade materials to minimise the impact on the environment.
About 4 years ago, I started enamelling and loved the colours and effects that can be achieved by heating and manipulating molten glass on metal. I experimented with a method to transfer digital images into the enamel, which was fun but very time consuming and rather "hit and miss"! It was very pleasing however to be able to create a commissioned, sentimental keepsake pendant using treasured photographs.
In 2014, I attended a silversmithing workshop and was instantly hooked. I mostly enjoy creating pieces inspired by country life and nature especially animals, flowers, leaves and shells.
More recently, I've been learning the CAD jewellery design process whereby pieces are created using software and then 3D printed into a wax model which can be directly cast into silver. This process offers endless possibilities so watch this space... 3D acorns, here we come!
